Jesus, the Essenes and Freemasonry-Is there a connection?

Who were the Essenes, how are they related to Jesus Christ and how does all of this relate to Freemasonry?

The Essenes are an enigmatic sect of Jews that lived in and around Palestine and according to Josephus, they had as many as four thousand adherents. They lived a holy, peaceful existence and held similar moral ground to the Pythagoreans.

Of the three sects of Jews that existed before the life of Christ, there were the Sadducees, the Pharisees, and the Essenes. It was said that Christ often denounced the Sadducess and the Pharisees, but never mentioned the Essenes. It is also striking to note that the virtues and morals by which the Essenes ascribed to, were much the same of the virtues of Christ himself. They believed in baptism, healing, and assisting the less-fortunate. They believed material wealth was a burden and that there was virtue in being poor and living in the most modest means possible. They abstained from eating meat and saw it as akin to slavery of the flesh.  They were strong adherents to keeping their wisdom secret, except to those of their order. Many of these concepts were attributed to the teachings of Christ as well and this idea of keeping the wisdom secret can be found in the fact that Jesus taught all of his word through parables, so that the commoner could not interpret their hidden meanings.

Masonic ciphers, or books of coded ritual work, have been available to Masons in America for some time. However, there was a time when this was forbidden, even if printed in coded cipher. There were some versions of the ritual that were released under different names so that they could be passed off without scrutiny. One of these “exposes” as many call them, has an Essene related name. It is called “Ecce Oriente; Or Rites and Ceremonies of the Essenes” by M. Wolcott Redding from 1870. It is my personal belief that Freemasonry teaches and promotes much of the original concepts that were embodied in early Christianity as well as other pre-Christian religions. Christianity was influenced by Gnosticism and Hermeticism, both of which are prevalent throughout the Masonic tradition. Check out the following articles for more on this fascinating topic:

The Lord’s Prayer-Hidden Esoteric Truths?

The Lord’s Prayer, which is familiar to all Christians and people of various faiths and traditions may hold deeper wisdom than most would recognize. The version that most of us know is as follows:

Our Father

Who art in Heaven

Hallowed be Thy Name

Thy Kingdom come

Thy will be done

On Earth as it is in Heaven

Give us this day our Daily Bread

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever

This appears to be a shortened and watered down interpretation of the original. Below is the Aramaic translation (link to the article is below the blog entry), which is much more detailed and seems to be perfectly aligned with the Ancient Mysteries and Hermetic philosophy.

Oh Thou, from whom the breath of life comes,
who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration.
(Nethkâdasch schmach)
May Your light be experienced in my utmost holiest.
(Têtê malkuthach.)
Your Heavenly Domain approaches.
(Nehwê tzevjânach aikâna d’bwaschmâja af b’arha.)
Let Your will come true – in the universe (all that vibrates)
just as on earth (that is material and dense).
(Hawvlân lachma d’sûnkanân jaomâna.)
Give us wisdom (understanding, assistance) for our daily need,
(Waschboklân chaubên wachtahên aikâna
daf chnân schwoken l’chaijabên.)
detach the fetters of faults that bind us, (karma)
like we let go the guilt of others.
(Wela tachlân l’nesjuna)
Let us not be lost in superficial things (materialism, common temptations),
(ela patzân min bischa.)
but let us be freed from that what keeps us off from our true purpose.
(Metol dilachie malkutha wahaila wateschbuchta l’ahlâm almîn.)
From You comes the all-working will, the lively strength to act,
the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age.
Sealed in trust, faith and truth

As you can see, with this translation, there are many concepts that will be recognizable to students of The Mysteries. Here is some further analysis on the prayer:
-Oh Thou, from whom the breath of life comes,

  • The Breath of Life or Spirit- this idea of breathing life into creation, or filling the material with the Spirit, is present in Eastern religion in the form or Prana and as exercised through the ritual breathing exercises  of Pranayama Yoga. In Western tradition, you can find it in Gnosticism as personified by the Pneumatics (Spirit). The Pneunmatics are the highest form of human, having elevated above the material aspect of being.

who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration.

  • The Principle of Vibration in Hermetic Philosophy states that everything we experience, whether it be matter, or spirit is made up of varying levels of vibration. Sound and Light are also comprised of levels of vibration. Modern science knows this to be true of our material world, but has not yet completely embraced the idea that it makes up the entirety of the non-physical world as well.

May Your light be experienced in my utmost holiest.

  • This idea of the Divine Light within all of us is relevant to all Western Mystery traditions. We know that we are composed of the same base substance (atoms) as everything else in the Universe, but the profane and uninitiated have never been taught to understand, or connect with that aspect of the Creator within each and everyone of us. The Creator has endowed each of us with this divinity, but it is up to the individual to bring forth the divine from within. This is what the Mystery Schools and Esoteric traditions are trying to convey through the betterment of self and the overcoming of our animal-nature.

Your Heavenly Domain approaches.

  • One of the most predominant themes in all religious, and esoteric teachings is that of elevating our Spirit so that it overcomes the shackles of the material realm. Finding and activating the Divine Light within helps the soul to do just this and climb Jacob’s Ladder to the Heavens.

Let Your will come true – in the universe (all that vibrates)
just as on earth (that is material and dense).

  • “As Above, So Below.” The Hermetic Principle of Correspondence reminds us that what we have within us is a microcosm of the Universe. Our body is a universe within itself and is connected to the Universal Whole. We are made up of the same substance/vibrations that make up the whole of the material and spiritual universe and that which is above in the Heavens is in essence, the same as what we have on Earth. God’s will is within the universe and the earth and is within everyone of us.

Give us wisdom (understanding, assistance) for our daily need,

  • In Freemasonry, Wisdom is one of the Three Pillars (Wisdom, Strength, and Beauty). These are said to be the attributes of the Great Creator and in His Omnipotent Wisdom, all things were created. In connecting with Divine Wisdom, we can bring forth the creative force within ourselves and bring it into manifestation to the betterment of the world.

detach the fetters of faults that bind us, (karma)
like we let go the guilt of others.

  • In finding true Spiritual Light, we must learn to forgive ourselves and others and find love for our fellow creatures. In forgiving those that have erred against us, we bring ourselves closer to spirit in that we have loosened the shackles of our lower, base-emotions.

Let us not be lost in superficial things (materialism, common temptations),

  • We are taught in Freemasonry to “Subdue our Passions” (common temptations) and are Divested of all Metals (materialism). These concept has been carried on through the Mystery Schools for millennia. Overcoming our attachment to the material and superficial, and learning to control our base-emotions are two of the most important concepts to finding Spiritual Consciousness.

but let us be freed from that what keeps us off from our true purpose.

  • Our true purpose is to bring forth the Divine Nature from within us that the Creator has invested us with. Our attachment to the material and emotional is what will keep us from bringing this forth.

From You comes the all-working will, the lively strength to act,
the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age.

  • Here again, we find Wisdom, Strength, and Beauty. The Wisdom to bring forth the divine within ourselves, the Strength to act upon this divine will, and the Beauty that which with we will adorn the temple of our world with by living by the tenets of the Ancient Mystery schools and esoteric traditions.

Sealed in trust, faith and truth

  • The closing of the prayer, like all good religious ceremonies and rituals, indicates that we must live with trust in our Creator, faith in the love of our Creator, and in doing so, we will discover the Divine Truth that our Creator has bestowed within each and every one of us.

Baphomet-the greatly misunderstood

The Templars were accused of heresy for various spurious reasons, including the supposed worship of the being, Baphomet. This baseless accusation is still being against Freemasons to this very day.  Derived from the Greek words for baptism and wisdom, Baphomet is a symbol that can only really be understood by delving deeply into the Mystery traditions and Gnosticism. The fact that Satanism adopted the Baphomet image has caused further confusion and damage to the Brotherhood. This short, but sweet video helps provide some clarification on the issue.

Esoteric Christianity-The Real Teachings of Christ were Hijacked!

Most Christians have no idea that the teachings of Christ contain deep mystical and philosophical teachings that are in line with the lineage of Mystery Schools.  When Christianity was made the state religion in Rome, all other religions that were around the area at the time were either wiped out entirely, or had to go underground.  Anything that contradicted what the ruling monarchy wanted their version of Christianity to represent, was criminalized and violently persecuted. The teaching were twisted into dogmas and used to control, rather than liberate. Many of the original books of the Bible were taken out because they contradicted what Constantine wanted and an attempt was made to destroy them.  Luckily, some of them survived and when studied, paint a very different picture.  In this fantastic article on Esoteric Christianity, you will see how the original teachings of Christ mirror those of other Mystery Traditions. Manly P. Hall-The Ultimate Modern Mystic pt 4

In the fourth and final installment in the Manly P. Hall series, a lecture on Hermeticism, Gnosticism and Neoplatonism is explored. Yet again, we see Manly’s ability to take complex topics and lay them out in a comprehensive manner to be easily understood. There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained by listening to his lectures, and I encourage anyone interested in religion, philosophy, or the esoteric to take the time to listen to them. Hope you enjoy!

Demystifying the Occult

In the War on Human Consciousness, we are being attacked from all sides. This is real War of Terror and it’s being waged against the populace by the Powers-That-Be on a daily basis. This is the longest and most destructive war of all time and it remains invisible to those who’s minds remain closed. It is the job of the media to feed us lies and keep the truth hidden away. This weakens us and makes us feel disconnected. The true weapon of this war is fear propaganda. Fear of disease, fear of other ethnicities, fear of other belief systems. Fear of zombies, for crying out loud! All bogus fear-propaganda. This is rammed down our throats everyday. We are taught to fear the unknown, to hate the differences in one another and to totally ignore the similarities that would unite us. These are tactics used to keep us down. We are taught to fear things that we don’t understand. If we all fear one another, we will have that much harder of a time uniting. This is all done on purpose. We are made to believe that we have no control over this, but this is simply not true. We have control over ourselves and this is key.

Say the word “Occult” and most people quake with fear. The word is most often associated with Witchcraft and Satanism. The word has been criminalized for a very long time. Though Satanism and Witchcraft are occult traditions, this is not to say that they are The Occult. The word occult comes from the Latin work ocultare, which means hidden, or veiled. The secret teachings of these occult traditions are very empowering for the individual. Mysteries of the universe, the psychology of the mind and knowledge of self are a few of these teachings. These teachings help to illuminate the individual and broaden their consciousness. They promote analytical thinking, morals, and freedom of belief. They can unlock doors of the mind that have been closed to us through fear, and this can be very powerful.

Traditions like Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism, and Hermeticism have been vilified by the media and by society at large. Yet these traditions, have the keys to many doors that have been slammed shut in our minds. These traditions promoted freedom of religion and the belief that all religions of the world are important and powerful. Once the Catholic Church came to ultimate power, anything that challenged the dogmas of their form of Christianity was persecuted and shut down, despite the fact that many of these traditions were the status quo before this happened. The religions of old were made to look foolish and even blasphemous in order to get rid of them. This new form of Christianity held no tolerance for belief in the divine within. You had to go to the Church for all spiritual guidance. They also promoted the idea of “Original Sin” and led people to believe that humanity as a whole was bad and that we deserve to live a painful existence. This was all a ploy to hold the people back from their ultimate potential.

This persecution is still happening to this day, despite the fact that the stronghold of the Church is no longer at work. We are led to believe that the very word “occult” is associated with evil and darkness. This is done intentionally to keep people away. I am here to tell you that not all of the Occult is evil and that some of the occulted knowledge is self-empowering and liberating. If used for the powers of good, it can be the key that sets us free. It can also help us find the great connection that we all have to one another and help us fine common ground. I am encouraging the skeptical to take another look at traditions like Freemasonry, Kaballah, Alchemy, Rosicrucianism, Hermeticism, and Gnosticism and see what is really there. You must look for original works by members of these groups and not to works from outsiders. This is where you will find the real insight. Approach this material with caution, but remember that all things in life were a little scary before you understood them.

The Temple Within

Please allow me to officially introduce myself. My name is Kirk. I am the namesake of my grandfather who’s last name was Kirkbride, and who’s nickname was Kirk. The name is of Scottish and Northern English descent and means “church”. This name may be one of the keys to my spiritual awakening.

We read in the Bible from Luke 17:21 that “the Kingdom of Heaven is within you”. This esoteric passage is meant to teach us that each one of us has the capacity for holiness. We have the inherent power to create Heaven on Earth if we put our minds and souls to it. This is an empowering idea. The true power lies within each of US. If one is to keep their body and mind pure, it is the surest way to creating a perfect balance within. This is the quest of the spiritual seeker.

My name literally translates to church. The church being the center of worship and spiritual contact. This is not to say that one should worship themselves. This idea is the antithesis of what the true meaning is. We are to treat our bodies and minds as purely as we can and we will find the true divinity within.

When one becomes a Freemason, they are given a white apron. In operative Masonry (the actual art of stonework and building) the apron is worn to protect the clothing, however, as a speculative Mason (allegorical) it is purely symbolic. It represents the soul of the individual. The newly made Mason is given a lecture about the importance of the apron as a symbol for the purity of the soul. They are told that it is their duty as a Mason to see that the apron remains white and unstained by the vices of this world. This is the same apron that is placed upon the body of a departed Brother as a symbol of the purity of his soul as he passes on to the Lodge above.

The body is a temple that was given to us by the Creator. We are supposed to treat it as holy and not defile it with poisons. Poisons of food and drink, and even more importantly poisons of hatred, lust, and jealousy. As I look toward my spiritual advancement, I am trying to keep my Kingdom in order. To keep it clean and unsullied. I am Kirk the Church of self. I must look within to find Heaven, just as you must look within yourself to find it. Bring it forth into the world and be your own spiritual guide, your own kirk, if you will. ang18

The Western Mystery Traditions: Gnosticism

Gnosticism is another mystery tradition that involves the individual going within themselves to find the divine within. The individual seeks to find the path to wisdom by living a divine life. The original teachings of Christ were gnostic teachings and gnosticism itself is primarily a Christian belief system. They were suppressed along with many of the other mystery traditions in hopes that mass-control of the people would be more possible. Hopefully this short documentary will shed light on this misunderstood tradition.
